Pattern-Makers Create New Customer Experience For Leveraged Profit Through Social Value
In my teens I found a book in my dad’s collection which described:
“…looking at the potential for a new kind of relationship… and a new kind of society…
…transcending outmoded roles and patterns”.
The book was Focusing by Eugene T. Geldin.
And I believe today’s Professional must embrace its central message that:
“A new society is forming … one in which the individuals are much more developed and aware than has been true throughout history …
…A society of pattern-makers is coming.”
As such:
Modern business seeks to create, package and control ‘experience’ for individuals that are more developed and more aware than ever before.
Consider ‘pattern-making’ as…
moulding ideas into models that influence experience.
Think of Walt Disney on a broader scale. More sophisticated. More holistic.
But listen:
As I travel through South America… speaking with and networking with people at different levels of society… I see that many people are still stuck by the same old conflicts, distractions and obsolete ways of daily life…
… whilst other people are in physically parallel lives — yet in completely different worlds.
As more people reconcile the complexities of the newly networked world they are integrating more information into broader puzzle-pictures of personal success…
…and filtering out anything of non-value — which includes:
- Selecting their relationships carefully (the global village offers potential that no company… not even Facebook… has even begun to tap)
- Avoiding valueless or destructive products and services (less hidden calories and chemicals, more of nature’s real nutrition),
- Controlling where they spend time (interactive holidays with time-efficient services rather than passive or standard package holidays),
- Discarding the empty promises of politicians (global cooling.. no wait.. global warming.. no wait… the ‘scientists’ were covering up the truth that there is no man made global warming at all.)
Consumers are ever-more selecting the companies they buy from… and regulations they choose to live under… based on their biases and individual micro-preferences on environmentalism, ethics, adventure, fulfilment, and meaning.
Coca-Cola beware.
Micro-Wave manufacturers beware.
Banks beware.
Civil obedience agencies beware.
Thus:
Today’s busy Executive… business owner… or Marketer, must understand the global market trends that will impact their own capacity for success — and align their business to the types of services that their customers will soon demand without compromise.
My love of marketing (sales copywriting in particular), allows me to explore human psychology… and global trends in technology, politics and economics… whilst reaching out and demonstrating the high value of my own or my client’s services.
Pattern-making has become a secret business tool that only the initiated and holistically experienced can even begin to grasp…
It requires skill, flexibility, intelligence, insight, information, access, resources, and a good network or team to:
…identify and align with the continuous micro-adjustments in the evolving market place.
For businesses to survive the coming economic / political mayhems and accelerated disruptive innovations, Marketing must use pattern-making to keep up with the increasingly shorter life-cycles of new customer expectations.
Any size company can achieve this for its own niche market or catchment area.
But business strategy and marketing must mature..
…beyond the messy restrictions and deficiencies of fixed-budget cost controlled so-called ‘efficiency’…
…and into a throughput-oriented open-budget bootstrapping process of ongoing improvement…
…where all business functions are subordinated to the throughput of customer experience.
Marketing must come to represent:
identifying, creating, communicating and delivering the individualised long-tail of human values through socially profitable business.
‘A society of pattern-makers is coming’… — gradually elevating the human race into the advancing future through business.
