The Career Troika

by Gavriel Shaw

This blog site is gradually evolving into wider aspects of business.

It started from Copywriting and basic Online Marketing. Considered contemporary issues such as Customer Performance Management, and has slowly expanded to several aspects of Business Strategy…

New Directions

The 'goal' of business (as per Eli Goldratt's Theory of Constraints) is making money. And this can be expanded and clarified by ethical considerations, risk-level acceptance, time-frame, etc.

Modern marketing insight is informing business strategy as to the risk-levels and economic value adding opportunities available for long-term effectiveness (far more important to overall shareholder value than the old financial measures of short-term profitability).

Peter Drucker said that Business has 2 key functions: Marketing and Innovation.

Marketing can be described as the process of increasing shareholder value through a long-term approach of satisfying ongoing changes of customer requirements.

Innovation can similarly be described as the process of adapting to changes in customer requirements to reach for ever greater ways of achieving customer satisfaction.

And so a Manager must combine Processes with Strategy inline with the Business Values, and his own daily task and time management.

Right now I see three important areas of a business career for this site to explore:

  1. Business Mission – The business you choose to be part of is your vehicle for value creation, captured in essence by a business 'mission statement'.
  2. Marketing Plan – Your marketing strategy and tactics represent the bridge between where you are now, and the full manifestation of the values represented by your business.
  3. Personal Strategy – This area focuses on your own abilities and skills that makes you increasingly competent to plan, decide, and control wider areas of business operation.

In my experience, these three areas represent key focus points for a successful modern business career.

This 'Career Troika' makes for an excellent model on which to base the evolution of this site.
